Wedding Invitation Wording

One of the most memorable times of your life will be your wedding day and the events and planning leading up to this special day in your life. Like most couples you want everything to be as perfect as it possibly can be.

When planning your wedding one of the many important decisions that you will have to make are the details of your wedding invitation. Wedding invitation wording is more important than you think it is. Wedding invitation wording has to follow certain rules of etiquette in order for it to be considered properly done.

Your wedding invitation will be seen by all of your guests at your wedding. It is crucial that your wedding invitation wording is done with the greatest of expertise because of this. Below you will find the basics of etiquette that should be followed on your wedding invitation.

- All of the names that are scripted on your wedding invitation should be written in full including the use of the couple’s middle names. If you do not want to use middle names then your wedding invitation should not have either of the couple’s middle names written on it. If one of couples names has a “2nd” or “3rd” after it the Roman numerals “II” or “III” should be used.
- All wording, including the dates and times should be spelled out on your wedding invitation. This would include the names of any streets, roads, or avenues including those words themselves. The only two that do not need to be spelled out on your wedding invitation are the words for the abbreviations St. and Mt.
- If your wedding will be in a church or other place of worship than the use of “request the honor of your presence” would be appropriate on the wedding invitation. If you are having an outdoor wedding or it is taking place in a non-religious setting than the use of “request the pleasure of your company” would suffice on your wedding invitation.
- The wedding invitation wording of yours and your partner’s names are generally done in black ink.

The most complicated portion of your wedding invitation wording arises when you come to the actual wedding invitation itself. Families of this generation exist in many different forms. The wedding invitation wording would need to be done differently in different situations. These situations would be dependent on who was sending out the wedding invitations. The wedding invitations could be sent out by the bride’s parents, the groom’s parents, both of the sets of parents, or the couple who is getting married themselves. Appropriate wedding invitation wording would also need to be considered if there were stepparents involved in the issuing of the wedding invitations.

Since this is your wedding you will want things to be carried according to the ways of proper etiquette in order not to cause offense to anyone. Many people would not think there were so many rules when it comes to wedding invitation wording, but as you can say, it is not as simple as one would imagine it to be. Make your wedding day perfect by taking the time to choose the proper wedding invitation wording on your very special and treasured wedding invitations.
